A Grandmother's Gift/Pink Saturday

Happy Pink Saturday! Many thanks goes to Beverly over at How Sweet the Sound for hosting this weekly blog party. To see other pink treasures, please click here.

This week I am sharing with you our beautiful wedding quilt. Now, I am not a quilter so I have no idea if there is a name for the pattern seen here, but regardless, I love this quilt! The beauty of the colors and the sentiment behind it makes it near and dear to my heart.

My husband's grandmother quilted this king-size bed cover for us as a wedding gift. Grandma Kueter is an expert quilter and has made us other beautiful quilted gifts including a nine-patch, king-size denim quilt. (That is one HEAVY quilt!) To see another example of her handiwork click here.

Until recently, Grandpa was Grandma's quilting partner. He often helped her with the batting and the piecing. We lost Grandpa to cancer last August, but he lived a wonderfully full life in his 92-years, spending 65 of them with Grandma! (I'm hoping that some of that long marriage karma rubs off on us!)

Until recently, this beauty was hidden away on our 3rd floor (finished attic) in the guest bedroom. I decided that it was the perfect touch to my family room "makeover" that went from primitives to cottage chic. I have often seen quilts and coverings draped over armoire doors and thought I would give it a try. I love the way it has warmed up the room. Layering is so much fun!

  2. How absolutely wonderful! Beverly sure knew what she was doing when she created a place for all of us "pinkies" to congregate and share our "pinkness".

Happy Mother's Day to you. I hope you find yourself surrounded by those you love, good food, and a gentle peace in your ♥. We don't need to be a mother to know a mother's life. After all we all started out with a mom, didn't we?☺

  24. It's beautiful, and such a special treasure because it was handmade for you with love. How neat that your grandpa helped your grandma quilt! Do you think you'll ever try it? My grandma knits and crochets. I've crocheted, but can't get knitting down! ;)
    Happy pink Saturday!

  25. Happy Mother's Day. Love the pinkness. The quilt is so lovely and I concur with the added beauty that it was made of love as a gift for you makes it even more of a treasure. Reading about your grandfather helping his wife make the quilts reminds me that true love transcends everything (including stereotypes. Hope you are having a great day.
