My Blue Family Room
Happy Blue Monday! Today, I present to you my family room after a recent "makeover" this weekend to celebrate the arrival of May. (What's that saying about April showers?) Although the transformation is not quite complete (the walls need a fresh coat of paint and the windows need new treatments), I think I achieved the "romantic" feeling for the room that I so desired. The best part...I didn't spend one penny! I hunted and collected found items from all over my home and they look so lovely grouped together! For more great blue finds, please visit our lovely hostess Sally over at Smiling Sally and enjoy the start of the work week. I know I am going to enjoy Mondays so much more!
I'm thinking that a nice golden yellow (from the check of the couch) would warm up the walls over the fireplace and around the windows.
Our entertainment armoire. CD/DVD storage is in the bottom drawer under the shelving.
Armoire with doors closed. I love the leather panels. Did you notice the tea cups up top? I added that little touch of whimsy after seeing so many beautiful transformations on Met Mondays! I still think something is missing...perhaps some greenery behind the teacups to hide the speakers. How about something with height? Any suggestions? And what about my blue wall...can you tell I LoVe blue?!!!
Our corner wood-burning fireplace. I would prefer gas, but I'm married to a fire fighter...need I say more. How about pyromaniac?!!!
Even with paint and new window treatments, I'm thinking this wall needs something. I suppose I could go with a framed print, but I was thinking about a plate collection display. This room is attached to our kitchen...one long room. Basically, I can cook and supervise kiddos at the same time. Might be a nice way to tie the two rooms together. Other ideas welcome!
*Disclaimer* Please pretend to not notice the dirty upholstery on my denim chair-and-a-half It is scheduled for a cleaning after this very cold/wet spring!!!
Since I photographed the room on Saturday night (okay, Sunday morning at 1 AM) I draped a beautiful quilt over one of the armoire doors, added some iron candlesticks on the fireplace mantel for height, and placed a floral swag over the framed print. (*HINT* Quilt photos to be posted on upcoming Pink Saturday!)
Finally, I failed to take "before" photos of our family room transformation. In a nutshell, it was decorated in the "primitive" style complete with crows, sheep, and hand hooked rug over the fireplace. A dark leather couch and lots of red complemented the "Americana" look in that room. Loving my new spring transformation and can hardly believe it is the same room!
Looks like a cozy room! Happy Blue Monday ~ Susan

Your transformation looks great. I really like your armoire! I did see those teacups :0) That wall can probably have a print or framed mirror and plates on either side and not look too crowded. Enjoy...
ReplyDeleteHI Val, thanks for stopping by Divine Vintage, and leaving such a sweet comment! I love that vase, and I'm glad you pulled yours out as well, I love the powder blue color!! Good luck with your living room, and have a nice week.

ReplyDeleteCozy and comfortable, just the way you want a family room to be. I think that yellow on the walls would be very cheerful. Happy Blue Monday.
ReplyDeleteWhat a perfect family room you have and with all my favorite colors too! I love that it is so cozy and yet open so you can keep an eye on the family while still tending to buisness in the kitchen.
ReplyDeleteTake your time ,with the details you have done an amazing job all the other will fall into place in no time at all.
Happy Blue Monday.
Blessings to you and yours.
The room looks very fresh and cozy. The plate collection would be great, or possibly a large mirror? I don't know the layout of the rooms but sometimes in a dark corner it can really help to bounce the light around and open up the room more. If you already have the plates though I say go with that option, save yourself some $, of course then you don't get to go shopping...
ReplyDeleteHi Valerie...nice to have you come peek into my world. We do seem confused don't we. I often forget I live in Misery...we work so hard to be nice but we have Jayhawks out in our yard and on the porch...flag flying alum we are. I still think I'm in Kansas...but I also think I'm in my early 20's. :o) Thanks for visiting.
ReplyDeleteGood grief, I hit publish and forgot to write the other part of my comments I was thinking after seeing your beautiful rooms. I LOVE blue and yellow. Your sofa looks much like one we had...but it bit the dust a while back. I LOVE the bold blue color on your wall....it feels so alive.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful room. You just can't beat blue & yellow color combinations. I also love plates hung on the walls, so you might try that instead of artwork!

Can a girl have too much blue...no!
ReplyDeleteWhat a comfy chair.
Thanks for stopping by all the way from Kansas.
Cheers,

Everything looks really nice! Love that blue wall! Yes, I think plates on the wall mentioned would be nice. As for the tea cups on top of the armoire, how about placing them on top of a book, or books. You are doing a fab job!
ReplyDeleteKatherine
Isn't it fun to re do a room! Yours looks like a happy place to live.
ReplyDeleteKathy b
That's quite a transition from what you wrote on your family room.
ReplyDeleteFun, isn't it?

I love the room! And I do beleive the yellow on the other walls will be awesome! I too love blue! The transformation is wonderful! Isn't it fun to redecorate with the finds in our own home! I love it! Looks like a great place to cuddle up and read a couple of good night stories to the kids.
ReplyDeleteHugs and blessings, my friend!
Valerie,
ReplyDeleteI love the ideas you are thinking about. Painting the walls yellow, adding an arrangement of plates to the wall. A white birdcage might look nice on top of your armoire with some greenery mixed in. Those teacups lined up are really cute! Yellow and blue is a favorite combination of mine and please post more photos as you make changes. I would enjoy seeing them. ~Cathy~
Wow! You're doing a great job. Thanks for posting.
