Summer Vacation: Days 12 & 13 “I’m Headed Home…”

This sounds like a great lead into a Daughtry song!  And for those of you who have been diligently reading “My Summer Vacation” posts, you’re in the homestretch!

The last two days of our southeastern summer vacation found us staying outside of Little Rock.  Sorry…no pics.  I know you’re disappointed.  ;)

On Day 13, as we wearily drove through southwestern Missouri on our way to Kansas City, I remembered from my childhood that Laura Ingalls Wilder and her beloved, Almanzo, had settled and lived out the rest of their lives in Mansfield, Missouri.

With a quick check and reprogramming of the Garmin, we were on our way to a major Laura Ingalls homestead (there are several throughout the country).

In this next series of photos, you can see the Ingalls-Wilder property on their Rocky Ridge Farm.  Photography is not allowed inside…:(  Trust me when I saw it is incredible to see…almost nothing has been replaced!

Of course, no history and/or museum trip is complete without a visit to the gift shop.  So, I saved the very best for last…our very own, “MARY” looking resplendent in her new sun bonnet!

  1. Hi, just came upon your blog. Cool Post. That was really neat to see the home of the stories that I have read to my children and the show that we would watch. I am your neighbor. Just one state above you. Have a great day!!

  3. So fun to see her home! I can remember so many of those tv programs :-) Every one looked at that family over here! But I´ve never read any of her books though. The Ingalls family must be one of the most kown families in the world I guess.
Thanks for letting us follow on Your trip!
    Have a great day now!

  6. How on earth did I not know that she was an actual real person? I grew up watching Little House on the Prairie but I never knew it was based on a real person and the story of her life. Wow, I learn something new everyday! The pics are amazing...looks like you're all having a great time!
