On This Day…

I Promise
by Dorothy R. Colgane

I promise to give you the best of myself
and to ask of you no more than you can give.

I promise to respect you as your own person
and to realize that your interests, desires and needs
are no less important than my own.

I promise to share with you my time and my attention
and to bring joy, strength, and imagination to our relationship.

I promise to keep myself open to you,
to let you see through the window of my world into my innermost
fears and feelings, secrets and dreams.

I promise to grow along with you,
to be willing to face changes in order to keep our relationship
alive and exciting.

I promise to love you in good times and bad,
with all I have to give and all I feel inside in the only way I know how.

Completely and forever.

peridotThe peridot gemstone is the supposed gift for the 16th wedding anniversary.  It also happens to be my birthstone!

Sixteen years ago today, on a beautiful crisp fall day, we were wed at St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Olathe, Kansas.  Chris and I each had all of our siblings stand up with us as well as several cousins.  My sweet sister was my maid of honor.   Later that day we would celebrate our wedding nuptials with family and friends at the Leawood Country Club.  We had a full sit-down dinner and dined to the elegant sounds of a 4-piece quartet.  After dinner, we cut a rug as the quartet morphed into a band including the chicken dance!  At one point I broke out the plastic fire fighter helmets and the wedding party graciously donned them for the bride!  :)

As we got married in the “stone-age” of photography, we have yet to get our wedding pictures and video transferred to digital images including DVD.  Must.Work.On.That.  At the very least, I need to get these images scanned!

We had almost 11-years of marriage together before we had our little ones.  We took some fantastic anniversary trips over the years and got engaged on the beach in San Francisco with the Golden Gate Bridge in the background!  Hard to believe that in another 16-years we will have a 21-year old and 19-year old.  I hope the ride doesn’t go too fast, because I am loving the view!!!

Oh and by the way, our first wedding dance…It Had to be You by Harry Connick, Jr.!

Thank you so much for taking the time to comment. Your kind words are appreciated! As Mother Teresa said, "Let us always meet each other with smile, for the smile is the beginning of love."
