The “How To” Guide to “Creating Your Own Swimming Pool”

The following is an excerpt from the “How To Do Anything” guide written by Benjamin (3)  and co-authored by big sister, Mary, (5).

STEP 1…ask your mom 3 times in an hour if you can play in the sprinkler outside because it is sunny out.  Seriously.  Be persistent…mommies will sometimes give in if you bug them enough.

BUT… if she continues to tell you NO, because if it wasn’t warm enough to go in the sprinkler this past Kansas SUMMER,  then it certainly isn’t warm enough in October just look for an opportune time to ingeniously solve the problem yourself.  In my case, I took full advantage of mommy having a migraine and not closely supervising me…

Step 2…find a Rubbermaid tub used for storing my clothes that are too small from summer, dump out contents, and drag downstairs into the formal dining room.

Step 3…(this is where you might need help from an older sibling) drag a kitchen chair to the cupboard and get yourself a large plastic cup.  Fill cup with water from the refrigerator door.

Step 4…begin filling up Rubbermaid tub with H2O from refrigerator.

Step 5…remove all clothing, including diaper.  If, in fact, you are a neatnik like me, be sure to get your swim diaper and swimming trunks from your bedroom.  This can be accomplished back at Step 2!

Finally, Step 6…carefully climb into Rubbermaid tub and relax!  Voila…your own hot tub…or in my case, cold tub.IMG_1127

By the way, I have high hopes that this kiddo is going to do great things in life because of his tenacity and ingenuity.  He won’t take no for an answer and I see him curing cancer or orchestrating world peace…just you wait and see!

  2. These little guys certainly keep the adults hopping! I've noticed a huge difference between my niece at that age and my nephew. She was content to play in her space and he has to be into everything! At least they kept the damage contained, it looks like! At least you know he's creative and inventive too, even if it makes you want to pull your hair out! I hope your head feels better, I have some family members that suffer from migraines and I know they can be torture. Have a great day and I hope you and the little ones are all ready for Halloween!

  8. I am still shaking my head in disbelief that we actually HAD two warm days out of no where. My husband Dan always says "If you don't like the weather in Kansas...just wait five minutes" and it was plenty cold last night to remind me it's now November! It was lovely to have the windows all open in the house though...reading my new "GET CREATIVE WITH TYPE" book! Thanks so very much Val! Can't wait until the weekend to goof around with the CD included. What a nice treat and I've had scrapbooking on the brain, so timing couldn't be better!

    Smiles and Hugs,
    Nancy

  9. Kids do the funniest things...don't they. He sure is a cutie.

Thank you so much for sharing earlier on my blog. I can relate so well with everything you said and even understand your feelings about being "dumped" again. It's just good to safeguard our hearts, protect ourselves and our relationships. Hope you have a great evening.

Thank you so much for taking the time to comment. Your kind words are appreciated! As Mother Teresa said, "Let us always meet each other with smile, for the smile is the beginning of love."
