The Flint Hills of Kansas

One of things that I love about Kansas, besides the fields of sunflowers and wheat,  is the tallgrass prairie.  I was a young college graduate when I first laid eyes upon the Flint Hills of Kansas on a trip out west.  I was mesmerized by its beauty.

This weekend a spectacular art show is opening here in Kansas City.  The Buttonwood Art Space  is showcasing art that exemplifies the beauty of the tallgrass prairie.  While the opening is tomorrow night (Oct. 2), art will be on display and available for purchase through December 5.

We are excited to announce the inaugural “Visions of the Flint Hills: Preserving the Tallgrass Prairie Art Exhibit and Sale” opens to the public at Buttonwood artSpace, 3013 Main St, Kansas City, MO, 64108, on Friday, October 2, 2009 from 6pm-9pm. The opening reception on the 2nd will be hosted by former Kansas governor, Mike Hayden, and will continue Saturday October 3rd from 10am-3pm. (From Buttonwood Art Space.com)

"Nowhere, not even at sea, does a man feel more lonely than when riding over the far-reaching, seemingly never-ending plains; and after a man has lived a little while on or near them, their very vastness and loneliness and their melancholy monotony have a strong fascination for him." Theodore Roosevelt

  2. Hello--

Ken and I went to a concert in the Flint Hills several summers ago.
It was really hot that day but we wouldn't have missed it for the world. To be out there in what seems to be the middle of nowhwere
    was the most amazing experience.
We also saw the cattle in the distance moving in for the night.
This concert is held ever summer in a different part of the Flint Hills--but we have not returned because it is held in the middle of JULY and it is HOT out there w/o trees. It is beautiful though.

  4. It looks beautiful. I can imagine all those wide open spaces are breathtaking. Not to mention the huge expanse of a star filled night. I will go and see the website. Thanks for your kind comments about my new blog, I hope it doesn't become "work" instead of "play"!

  7. I live by the edge of our plains over here. It´s not that big as in Kansas, but I do know what You mean! Most people thinks it´s a bit boring but I love it!
    Have a great day now!
