Let There Be Light

"…Jesus spoke to them, saying: I am the light of the world: he that followeth me, walketh not in darkness, but shall have the light of life."
—John 8:12

Last weekend, while in St. Louis for Eli's open heart surgery, I had the opportunity to have dinner with a wonderful friend from high school. Anne, Caroline, and I were like the three musketeers, but as often happens in life, I moved away and lost touch with both of these fantastic ladies.

Facebook reconnected us, and Anne and I made it a priority to get together for dinner while I was in St. Louis WITHOUT children! :) We ate and drank and laughed; it was like we picked up where we left off at age 18. (We recently turned 40!)

True to form, (Anne has always been such a thoughtful friend, daughter, sister)she brought a little gift bag for my kiddos...FLASHLIGHTS! (Anne works for Energizer.) How she knew this gift would send my little ones over the moon is beyond me; perhaps because she is mother to a preschooler herself!

So, thank you Anne! You LIT up their day with your simple gift of handheld flashlights AND nightlights. AND,let's make it a habit to get together at least once a year for some more of that therapeutic laughter!!!

And for all of you that are feeling down or have hearts heavy this Sunday, may the little things in life (flashlights, sunrises, sunflowers, etc.) remind you of the light of Christ and His ability to lift burden from your heart. Be sure to visit Spiritual Sundays for other heartfelt and inspirational posts today.

Blessings to all from the SUNFLOWER state!!!

  8. I think it is great you had the opportunity to be with old friends again. Our daughter (48 yrs old) and six of her girl friends who went to our church as teenagers get together every year. This year they will all be coming to her house in November. They take turns hosting the group. I think it is really neat that they stay in touch after all these years.
I'm looking forward to going to our high school class reunion next month. I graduated in 1954. It will be interesting to see these people I haven't seen in over 50 years. I know they will all look so old. LOL
    Blessings,

  11. That's great that you got together with your friends. How thoughtful of your friend to give those gifts to your children. Like how they were so happy and holding tight to those gifts they received, may we be the same, holding on tight to the Light and remain joyful no matter what circumstances come our way. God bless.

  15. I am so jealous that you had that time with Anne. I am so glad all went well with that entire visit. Please pray for a newborn going into open heart surgery today. Luke only has a condition the left side of his heart to not grow. Please pray for Baby Luke and his family.

  16. Friends are great to have and when you get the oppotunity to reconnect it IS a blessing. I had this opportunity when my Mom passed away. One of my childhood friends e-mailed me and we have stayed in touch ever since.

Those little darlings of yours are SUPER CUTE!

    Have a terrific Tuesday.
