Master Bedroom Sneak Peek...

Happy Weekend, Friends!

I'm so glad it's Friday.  The kids have Monday off for Teacher Inservice which translates into a 3-day weekend for me!

I'll be working on some blog posts to share with you Mary Catherine's bedroom.  It's finally finished.  While not my style…it truly is "very Mary"…and she loves it.  I love it too…for her!
*smile*

In the meantime, here's a sneak peek of my Master Bedroom makeover.  Yesterday, my new bedding arrived and I couldn't be more pleased…

…soft grays….dreamy whites…and various shades of purple.

The purply-gray color of the wall was not what I expected when we had the room painted this summer, and so the original color palette I chose would not work.  Rather than spend more money to have the room repainted (either by myself or the painter), which I could not justify, I decided to live with the color for a few months and think about it.

And I'm so glad I did.

When I went back to look at the color name on the can…Lowes had typed out the color code on the lid.  When I saw "maroon" I understood why my gray did not appear as I had expected it to.  I set out to find a new quilt set and started searching in the purple/lavender category.

I found this king-sized quilt on Ovestock.com and I fell in love with its scalloped edges.  It had great reviews from those that had purchased it and it seems to wear/wash well.  While definitely not the kind of quality one finds in a handmade quilt, it will work nicely for now.
(The white comforter and ruffled pillow shams are from Target…Rachel Ashwell's Shabby Chic line.)

I'll be replacing the lamps, adding some window treatments, and of course, wall art for over the bed.  Lots of decisions to be made…it's a work in progress for sure, but I am loving the country/shabby/French feel to our bedroom.

This week, I also purchased a "skinny" Christmas tree for our bedroom.  When my husband saw it, he just rolled his eyes.  (I've recently become addicted to putting up tiny trees everywhere!  *smile*)  I can't wait to decorate it with garland fabric strips…tin metal…and white-washed wood ornaments.

So there you have it…my jumping off point for our Master Bedroom makeover!

Wishing you a peaceful weekend…I will be snuggling up with my new comforter and quilt set.

*hugs*

  1. Very nice!! I really like this colour! That is another thing we have in common, as our room is also a purple /maroon colour. One wall is deeper purple than the other, we didn't paint this room yet, it was like this when we moved in. At first I hated it, as it does not fit my idea of primitive/country. It has grown on me though over the years, and for now, I just decorate around it, but I like it more now than I did in the beginning. I really need to get some photos of my house posted on my blog!!

    1. Yes, do post some pictures…I would love to see your home!!! That is funny about the color…I do see a lot of the burgundy color in primitives…just not purple as much. Like you, it has grown on me. Our wall color really is super light…just not the gray that I was expecting! Hugs.

    1. *smile* You know what, Billie Jo…I always had a quilt on our bed…then switched to a floral comforter…and now I'm back to my patchwork. I love a sweet quilt!

  3. Oh, Valerie! It really is beautiful! I'm glad you waited and "lived with it" for a bit. I've learned to live with and wait and see over the years. As they say, haste makes waste. You did a good job with the color match up. When we do go to replace our bedding, I told my husband I want to switch to a quilt. Something simple and beautiful, like yours :) Have a blessed Sunday!

    1. Awww…thanks, Patty! You know, I've always had a quilt on our bed…and then a few years ago, I tried to step out of my comfort zone…be something/someone I am not…wear a different style. But the shoe didn't fit! LOL When I decided a few months ago, to go back to what I love, I have felt such a sense of peace and calm. I know you love simple too!!! Happy Sunday, dear friend!

Thank you so much for taking the time to comment. Your kind words are appreciated! As Mother Teresa said, "Let us always meet each other with smile, for the smile is the beginning of love."
