The Education of Children

"Must we always teach our children with books? Let them look at the stars and the mountains above. Let them look at the waters and the trees and flowers on Earth. Then they will begin to think, and to think is the beginning of a real education."
David Polis

The little ones and I have been pupils of Mother Nature. We have been diligent students, being educated about the ways of the birds, and the bees, and the flowers on the trees! We are becoming better caretakers of the Earth.

"Look, Mom...Carrots, just like Rabbit!" (One of Mary's favorite characters from Winnie the Pooh)

Benjamin loves helping to water the plants and flowers.

Filling up the bird bath.

Our beautiful magnolia in bloom. This variety smells delicious and is tolerant of the bitter winter we experience here in Kansas. Notice the bee on the bloom (upper right hand corner) that was about to attack!

As I post this, the angels in heaven are serenading us with peals of thunder and lightening. How has Mother Nature entertained you?

  1. I took some pictures just this morning of the beautiful hibiscus flowers that blossomed today. Just in time for mother nature's storms to come through...

  2. Well mother nature hailed on my vehicle this morning. I had to take cover under a big tree on the golf course. But it was a great excuse to just stay home this afternoon and reupholster(?) an old chair from Good Will.

  3. Looks like they had a lot of fun. The little ones always love to be outside. I am having a hard time bringing in my little nephew when it's time to come in, I have to distract him with some sort of bribe of activity to quell the cries of "Outside Outside". Ah, the joys of the terrific twos! Mother Nature entertained me last week with a mini windstorm I'm going to post about tomorrow! Have a wonderful Wednesday full of blessings!

  4. Beautiful Magnolia! What kind is it? Over here at my home there´s only one, mabe two sorts that can survive the winters and I´m pretty sure neither of them is what You show.

Nature has given us loads and loads of tears today. Someone above must be very sad today :-)
    Have a great day now!

  5. Hi Christer,

I thought of all my readers you would be most likely to comment about my beautiful flowering magnolia tree!

It is called a Bracken's Brown Beauty and you can learn more about it here.

Hope that the teardrops have stopped falling. Thanks for dropping by,
    Valerie

  6. Hi Valerie!
I thought it was a M. grandiflora but I don´t have that much knowledge of them. But I do know that they can´t survive here. There are a couple in the most southern Sweden, but they have big problems with our long winters. But with the climate change who knows? It might soon be possible to have them here too.
    Thanks!
    Christer.

  7. Valerie,

Mother Nature has entertained us for weeks now with BEAUTIFUL thunderstorms every evening. We sit on the back porch and listen as the thunder rolls in!

Thank you so much for taking the time to comment. Your kind words are appreciated! As Mother Teresa said, "Let us always meet each other with smile, for the smile is the beginning of love."
