Tweak it Tuesday...Ballet Slipper Collection

If you're a mom to a dancer than you understand the universal dance dilemma...

...what to do with all those used ballet slippers?!

I'll be the first to admit it...I've seen the used slippers basket at the dance studio, but right now, at least at this point in my daughter's life, I'm too attached to her used dance slippers to donate them.  (I did donate one pair to a family in need that I learned of, but I've kept all the other pairs!)

So, after Googling and Pinning a few crafty ideas for recycling used ballet slippers, I came up with my very own...

...stashing all of them inside a glass vase and putting them on display in her bedroom.

I also hung her very first pair of ballet slippers...Toddler Size 9 from when she started dance at age 3...over her bed.  (Today she is wearing a Size 3 in ballet slippers and a FIVE in tap shoes!)

I'm not quite sure I'm liking the ballet slippers hung up over her bed, but I am loving the slipper display on her dresser!

I am almost finished with this little ballerina's bedroom makeover, and hoping to link up the big reveal at Savvy Southern Style for Wow Us Wednesday the day after tomorrow.

Thanks so much for visiting today, especially if you are popping in from Brenda's blog Cozy Little House for Tweak it Tuesday.

  1. What a sweet idea Valerie (that's my sisters name). Those shoes have a story to tell and they deserve to be displayed. If your daughter doesn't appreciate it now, someday she will.

Thank you for visiting and happy to meet you via Brenda's.

    1. Thanks, Doreen. You know what...I LOVE what you said..."those shoes have a story to tell..." You put into words exactly what I was thinking, but couldn't find a way to express. I did see a cute display where you sew a series of slippers together (horizontally) and then hanging off of each pair at different intervals are black and white photos of the child at a ballet performance wearing those slippers. Cute! Thanks to you, too, for paying me a visit. Hugs.

  2. What a neat idea! I had bags of old dance shoes around the house. Sold some, donated some, but I'm still stuck with some!!

    1. Thanks, Melanie! I also just saw an image where a collection of toe shoes were placed in a beautiful white/chippy urn on a coffee table with the pink satin ribbons spilling over the side of the urn. Very sweet, yet sophisticated!

  3. Hi Valerie,

    So nice to meet you!

I'm sure your dancing daughter will appreciate your sweet gesture when she is old enough to understand how a mother feels about her children's efforts and accomplishments. Looking forward to the final reveal!

Thanks so much for stopping by Poppy View and for your kind comment!

    Happy Tuesday to you!

  4. What a great idea! Maybe, eventually, she'll choose to donate them and pass the same gift onto another little girl (and mama :) Looking forward to seeing her "reveal"....(enter drum roll sound from my end of the world!)

    1. So glad to hear that, Manuela! I hope she keeps at least her littlest pairs for a very long time...if nothing more than to remind her of how far she's gotten with dance! Thanks so much for dropping by and leaving your kind comment.

  8. Oh this reminds me of when my daughter was little and all the ballet shoes we went through ( I still have them somewhere, as well as several tutus!) I am so excited to be your swap partner ( and thanks for your comment on my blog). When I opened the email from Monica and read your information and peeked through your blog ( can't wait to read more) and was amazed at what we have in common! I look forward to getting to know you better! I am planning on getting back to blogging, I have taken several breaks, but realize how much I actually miss it. Talk soon!

    1. HI Ellie. I emailed you, but just wanted to respond here too. Yes, it is hard to get back into blogging after taking breaks...I've done that several times over the years, but life is made up of different seasons, right?! Looking forward to corresponding more regularly. Hugs.

  9. Those slippers look great in the glass display. You just wait...won't be long until you have her first pair of toe shoes to hang over her bed. At $80 a pair, those are even harder to let go of! :-)

    1. Hi Happymomonline! Yes!!! You are so right...my little ballerina is eagerly awaiting the magic age of 11 to begin toe-dancing. We haven't allowed her to participate on the competition dance (ballet/tap) team...so she's really looking forward to toe shoes and advancing in ballet. Holy cow...$80 a pair...uh, yup, will definitely be holding onto those! :)
