Welcome September!
"The breezes taste
Of apple peel.
The air is full
Of smells to feel-
Ripe fruit, old footballs,
Burning brush,
New books, erasers,
Chalk, and such.
The bee, his hive,
Well-honeyed hum,
And Mother cuts
Chrysanthemums.
Like plates washed clean
With suds, the days
Are polished with
A morning haze."- John Updike, September

I hope you have been having a blessed Sunday as well as a relaxing Labor Day Weekend!
My husband is on-duty on Labor Day (no rest for the weary in some occupations!) and so it will be a quiet Monday at home with my three kiddos.
For me, September 1st always welcomes Fall even if the Autumnal Equinox is still a few weeks away. I get so eager to get out my Fall decorations and this year is no exception. Maybe because we had such a mild summer...and now a heat wave...which I'm ready to say farewell to!
I couldn't resist purchasing chrysanthemums for the front porch.
Mary Catherine picked the color.
Beauty in a pot.
So pretty they are!
ReplyDeleteI too am ready to say
bye bye to the heat.
Enjoy your day with the kids,
Mr.Ken and I are off on a road
trip in the am to Powell Gardens.
:o)
Perfect post with perfect pictures to welcome September, Val! Enjoy your quiet day tomorrow. We are doing the same...a quiet day at home. I hope it cools off soon! : )
ReplyDeleteI agree with Billie Jo! Gosh! I can't get my fall on since we have been hovering around 105 degrees for the past week. We actually had a "little" bit of rain last night. I forgot what rain sounds like hitting the rooftop while lying in bed. Ha ha. Enjoy your quiet weekend!
